After dinner I always do the same thing: wash the dishes, clean up the kitchen and then go brush my teeth, which for the last year in a half had been a long drawn out process because of my braces. It doesn't take half as much time anymore, but still after dinner I expect the boys to go play amongst themselves while I take care of those few things.
So last night the boys were playing together upstairs, or so I thought. As I was going up to check on them I started calling out Kyle's name and just as I reached the top of the stairs, he stepped out of Tyler's bedroom with a handful of open markers.
Uh oh, I thought to myself.
While I was busy in the kitchen he must have been busy coloring Tyler's comforter with marker. Super great! And the best part of the story is that Tyler was there the entire time as you can see by the lump in the picture. He's been listening to audio books of Harry Potter via headphones and his Nintendo 3DS and for whatever reason he likes to do that while hidden beneath the covers of his bed. So he was completely blind and deaf to the little artist that was hard at work.
I asked Kyle what the heck was going on and he said, "Dark blue Mommy, dark blue" as he pointed out the blue marker on the sheets.
For real? I cleared the bed and spread out the comforter so that I could really appreciate the scope of the situation.
Sigh. Why does Crayola even make markers that aren't washable and better yet...why did we even buy them Why?
Suddenly I had a couple of loads of laundry to do. I just love when laundry materializes out of the clear blue sky. Such is my life. P.S.- the marker did wash out of the sheets and the comforter, despite the fact that the markers didn't say washable on them. So maybe I didn't need to throw them in the garbage after all. Well, we'll just replace them with the washable kind just to be on the safe side.
But as I was cleaning up the marker mess I had a feeling of deja vu. Didn't I just have to clean up a similar mess. Oh yeah...I must have been thinking about the baby powder incident.
That was the time I tried to lay Kyle down for a nap, but instead of sleeping he got out of bed, got the baby powder, brought it back in bed with him and poured whatever was left in the container out all over his bed. It's hard to see in the picture since it's white on white, but let me tell you....it was a MESS!
If Kyle could whistle innocently he would.
As for me, these are the lessons learned: only buy washable markers, never buy baby powder again, and Kyle is way too mischievous to be trusted out of sight. The end.
