June Favorites

Here are some of my favorite Project Life and Instagram photos for June.

 

Kyle started swim lessons this summer and he's really doing a great job! It's at the same place Tyler did his lessons, at the Yakima Athletic Club. We signed him up for two of the preschool sessions back to back so he has lessons 4 days a week for a month straight. He already finished the first session and is on to the second one now.

Both boys went to the dentist this month for the usual 6 month cleaning. It's just a light polishing of the teeth, a quick floss and then they apply some fluoride to the teeth. No big deal. But poor Kyle, you don't need to ask him how that fluoride tasted...just look at his face.

Story time. And yes, of course Carmelita is in attendance.

Night session at the public pool with Dad, a rare occasion. Both boys were in heaven because as we all know, Rick is infinitely more fun than me.
 

Kyle got to go down the big water slide for the first time ever and he loved it! He had the biggest smile on his face.

A trip to the Family Fun Center for miniature golf and bumper boats with my boys. I took this picture right after we got off the bumper boats and you can kind of see how wet Kyle and I are.

Evening walks are still a favorite, but getting harder to do with the high temperatures. By the time it cools off enough to go for a walk, it's past Kyle's bedtime.

Not much reading this month, but the books I did finish were enjoyable.

Fourth Grade Graduate

Yesterday was Tyler's last day of 4th grade, his last day of elementary school and his last day with Mrs. James. He handled it like a champ, but I was an emotional mess. I had to constantly focus my mind to keep from continuously crying like a baby.

 

It's a tradition at Cottonwood to send the graduating 4th graders off with a pancake breakfast on the last day of school, so of course Rick, Kyle and I were there for the occasion.

The kids ate their pancakes, milled around getting last minute signatures in their yearbooks and then the teachers took turns giving short graduation speeches.

So lets look back at Tyler and Mrs. James through the years.

This was his first year with her in 2nd grade.

This was when the entire 2nd grade class took the bus over to Apple Valley Elementary to participate in the 1st annual James Jog-a-thon to remember Barry James who had died earlier that school year.

And finally the last day of 4th grade. I can't even articulate how happy and sad this makes me at the same time. I love Mrs. James so much, I don't even have the words. The love, patience, understanding, and support she's given to Tyler and our family over the last 3 years is beyond compare. We would not have made it to where we are today as successfully as we have without her in our life and that's a fact. Period.

Fitness for Kids Marathon 2015

For the 2nd year in a row Tyler participated in the Fitness for Kids Marathon, which is put on by the Hard Core Runners Club of Yakima and is hosted by his teacher Mrs. James. You end up with a couple of months to run 25 miles at your own pace and leisure and then all participants meet at Sarg Hubbard Park to run the last 1.2 miles together as a group.

 

This year Tyler ran so many miles in Mileage Club at school, which also counted towards his marathon miles that I only had to run with him a handful of times.

The finale was yesterday at 5:00 and with the temperature around 95 degrees (much hotter than usual for this time of year), I had one boy trying to take a nap and the other one ready to go at the starting line.

I really have to hand it to Tyler. He didn't complain much about the heat and he even ran his personal best time. We didn't stay around for the award ceremony, but turns out that kids from his class took some of the top spots for fastest times for 4th grade boys and girls.
