May Favorites

Here are some of my favorite Project Life pictures for May:

 

Kyle was laying on the bed and arching his arms up and down saying, "Look Mom, I'm making a snowman!" And no matter how many times I tell him that I think he means "snow angel", he keeps on telling me it's a snowman.

Earlier this day I'd taken Kyle to the dentist and he received a perfect bill of health. Then later I took him to the bank and he got a green apple tootsie roll from the teller, which he promptly jammed into his teeth. What did the dentist say about not eating any sticky foods for the rest of the day....oops.

Last weekend Rick was cleaning out the closet and came across my St. Patrick's Day hat and collection of beads. Kyle thought he'd be silly and wear the entire getup to the grocery store. The hat was so big that it kept falling over his face and Tyler started playing peek-a-boo with him.

Another day, another picture in the car. Kyle thinks he's fooling me, but I know he's asleep behind those sunglasses.

Beyblades. Tyler doesn't play with his much anymore, but Kyle is so interested in them that he actually learned how to thread the ripcord and launch them all by himself. He's pretty good at it now.

This is just one in a series of photos I took of Tyler trying to cross his eyes. Comedy!

 

Carmelita is always the first one to the dinner table. Always.

 

And how could I leave out Coco Bear? Here she is waiting casually for me to finish my morning workout so I can rub her belly.

Weekend Outings

Launching Rockets

Last weekend we took the boys out to the elementary school field to launch rockets. We've been taking Kyle with us ever since he was a baby, but this is the first year that he had any idea about what was going on and realized that he could press the launch button just as well (and even faster) than his big brother.

 

Tyler got several new rockets for his birthday so we were able to launch all that we had one right after the other, without having to stop to reload the engine, wadding and parachute. It was nice until we were finished and had to clean up the jumble of rockets and semi-melted parachutes.

Then the next day I took them over to Randall park to play for a little bit before lunch. I love when Tyler is home from school and can go with us to the park because the boys have so much fun when they play together outside.

 

Kyle's Surgery

This morning Kyle was scheduled for his surgery and his appointment was bright and early at 7:00, so it was easy to pluck him out of bed and put him in the car at 6:45. He wasn't allowed to eat anything prior to his appointment, so I didn't want him awake long enough to start asking for breakfast or his beloved milk.

 

We got to the surgery center and I changed Kyle into some hospital pajamas and slipper socks and then the nurse took his blood pressure and temperature. Once his vitals were cleared, the nurse gave him some medicine to drink that made him drowsy and prepared him to go back to the operating room.

While we waited for the medicine to kick in, he played some games on the tablet.
 

15 minutes later, he was zoned out and ready to go into the operating room.

Then the hard part, for me at least, was waiting for an hour out in the waiting room. The procedure was quick, but they let Kyle sleep for 45 minutes in the recovery room before coming to get me. I sure wish one of the nurses would have come out and told me that everything went fine and that he's resting and that they'd come back and get me when he started to wake up. Instead they told me nothing and after 50 minutes had passed, I really started to get anxious. They did finally let me back to see him once he had woken up.

What a big boy! Living it up in the recovery room: cartoons on the television, a tablet in his lap, popsicles, animal crackers and the most comfy recliner ever.

Mother's Day

Flowers, small gifts (a new mug and a small tabletop jewelry stand), breakfast, outdoor playtime and an afternoon bike ride on the greenway. It was a great day with the boys.

 

 

Our Week With Froggold

Earlier this week Tyler brought home a little frog that he found at school while he was out at recess. I guess it's not too hard to find them out in the field along the back fence. It seems like we always run into frogs over there every time we go to the school to launch rockets.

 

I told Tyler that I didn't know a thing about frogs so we wouldn't be able to keep him as a pet or anything, but that we could keep him for a few days and then let him go in our backyard.

So we set up the old hamster cage with a few rocks, water, leaves and some grass.

What a cute little froggy! Tyler named him Froggold.

And I made sure that Tyler took him out every day and let him jump around in the grass.

The boys played with him for a few days and had their fun, but we let him go yesterday. Who wants to be cooped up in a little hamster cage anyway.

Birthday Bonanza

It was Rick's birthday on Sunday and I told him that he needed to take advantage of the fact that his birthday fell on the weekend this year and since it'd probably be the last time for awhile, he should spend the day doing something fun. Well he interpreted "something fun" as multiple trips to The Home Depot, digging a trench on the side of the house and installing a new length of pipe and a new sprinkler.

 

He did however manage to carve out some time for presents, cake and ice cream.

 

Finally! Kyle had literally waited hours to be able to open Daddy's presents for him. You'd think the super animated face was for Kyle's benefit and maybe it was, but he was honestly excited about his new wallet.

And a new multi-tip screwdriver with extra bits. Tyler told him, "Here Daddy let me show you how it works....um, actually I don't know how it works". Well then!

Next it was time for cake and ice cream. Homemade carrot cake and some cheesecake frozen yogurt from the Yogurt Shack. Such an outstanding combination. So good!
