It's that time of year again! For the entire month of July Inklings Bookshop hosts the annual Where's Waldo Yakima scavenger hunt. It's for the kids and it's mostly just for fun, but there is a prize drawing during the finale celebration at the end of the month. All you have to do is visit the 24 local businesses and have fun finding Waldo.
Our first stop is always at Inklings Bookshop since they're the host of the activity and that's where you get the passport showing all the 24 businesses that are participating.
One thing about the hunt is that Tyler doesn't like to get too many hints or he starts to go into meltdown mode. Some stores let you wander around forever without giving any hints and others won't stop with the hints. In some stores it's like:
Oh, you're looking for Waldo? He's right here! Thanks, Bye. So on our first visit to Inklings, the employees kept giving Tyler so many hints that we just had to leave to avoid a total meltdown and come back another time. Also, Inklings is one of the stores that move Waldo on a daily basis so it's a new challenge every day.
So on our second attempt in Inklings, even with a hint, it took us awhile to find Waldo attached to a kite hanging from the ceiling.
At Boehm's Chocolates Waldo was hiding against the back wall on a shelf with ornaments and other knick knacks.
Kyle is doing a great job this year! He needs an extra hint or two, but he's having a fun time looking for Waldo.
At Loo Wit Gardens Tyler was the first to find Waldo hiding next to a display of greeting cards.
Ohana Shaved Ice is usually the easiest stop because it's nothing more than an outdoor hut, but still it took me awhile to find Waldo tucked into a corner of the roof.
Here he is at Vaux Shoes.
And at the English Country Market he blended right in with some nautical napkins.
At the Oak Hollow Gallery, Waldo was hiding on the floor and it wasn't until the store owner said, "if he were a snake, he'd bite you" that anyone noticed him so low on the ground.
And at Gasperetti's he was hiding pretty good on a shelf that we kept walking past numerous times.
