April Favorites

Here are some of my favorite Project Life pictures from April:

 

I took this one of Kyle on our drive back home from California. It was around 7:00 in the evening and by this point we'd already been in the car for 9 hours. I love seeing the smile on his face and knowing he's making the best out of the situation.

Here it was garbage day and Kyle ran to the front door and threw the blinds aside when he heard the garbage truck coming down the street. Such interest in watching a can of garbage getting tossed into a big truck. Who knew? 

 

This month we took advantage of Yankee Candle's tart sale and really stocked up. Those are the little wax disks that you put into a warmer and melt so you get the fragrance without having to use a flame. We figured it was the best way to try some of the scents without having to commit to a huge candle. Kyle couldn't have been happier. He loves smelling candles. Seriously. I eventually had to hide them in a cabinet just so he'd finally leave them alone.

I don't know which I like better: that silly face or the I ♥ Mom shirt.

This was the day we picked Tyler's glasses up from the eye doctor and Kyle couldn't stop staring....what's on your face brother? I can understand. Tyler looks like an older version of himself when he's wearing his glasses.

Now that the weather has warmed up, the boys go outside to play on the trampoline on a daily basis. I love seeing them have so much fun together.

And as much as they get along, they also argue with each other as all siblings do, so it's nice when they are able to sit side by side in a harmonious manner.

 

 



See Spot Run 2014

Today Tyler and I ran the See Spot Run 5K, benefiting the Humane Society of Central Washington. Previously we walked the race in 2011, when I was pregnant with Kyle and then we gave it our first real shot in 2013, so this was our third time participating in the race.

 

My main goal was to beat my time from last year, which was 36 minutes. So to practice, Tyler and I had been going over to the high school track and running laps during the weekends. 

 

We got to the park with only a few minutes to spare. I didn't think they were going to start exactly at 11:00 because it always takes extra time for people to register or check-in, but no....they were right on schedule this year. In fact, the race started so abruptly that I didn't even have time to get my music ready, put in my headphones, or even start my Runtastic app on the phone.

Tyler chose to run the short one mile course this year, since he tends to be more of a sprinter than a distance runner. He finished somewhere around the 11 minute mark.

I went on to finish the entire course and did beat my time from last year at 33 minutes. Yay!

And the course was slightly different this year, so that was a nice change.

Here we are at the finish line, but we're not done running yet. Tyler is still running miles that count toward his fitness marathon. After the race today he has 13 miles, so he's halfway there. He'll keep running during mileage club at school and with me on the weekends until he reaches 26 miles.

Easter 2014

Wedding Day

Saturday April 19th, 2014

Justin & Jamie's wedding at Tuscan Ridge

 

The wedding was at 5:00 in the evening and we arrived with just enough time to see Justin and Wyatt before the ceremony began and wow...those boys clean up nice.

 

We headed over and took our seats.

Neither of the boys were particularly pleased that they had to sit in their chairs rather than search the grass for four-leaf clovers.

Look at the cake! So pretty! On the top was a layer of carrot cake, followed by a tiramisu chocolate  in the middle and lemon on the bottom.

For dinner there was a choice of tri-tip with mashed potatoes or grilled chicken with rice along with salad, green beans and a roll. Yum!

It was a perfect day with gorgeous weather and an evening filled with family, celebration, food and lots of love. We had an absolutely fabulous time!

Fitness for Kids Marathon

Tyler's teacher is a member of the Hard Core Runner's Club of Yakima, as was her late husband, and she's keeping his memory alive by organizing the 2014 Fitness for Kids Marathon, which is something he had done in the past. It's an easy way for kids to keep active by breaking down a marathon into smaller, more manageable distances that in the end will equal 26.2 miles. All participants have from now until the first week of June to run or walk 25 miles on their own time and at their own pace and then they'll meet in June to run the last 1.2 miles together at Sarg Hubbard Park.

 

So Tyler and I committed to the challenge and walked the first two miles over the weekend. He was more interested in running than I had anticipated, so next time I'll make sure to actually wear workout clothes rather than jeans.  Plus, if we run instead of walk, it'll serve as better training for the See Spot Run 5K coming up at the end of the month.

We went in a big loop around the middle school that included a big downhill slope and then on the way back, a mighty uphill slope.

And the neatest part was having the runtastic app on the phone that kept track of our mileage, time...everything. So much cooler than a pedometer!

March Favorites

My favorite Project Life pictures for March:

 

Kyle is such a big boy now that he climbs up the playground equipment all by himself. I still get a little nervous, afraid that he'll slip, but he gets such a big smile on his face when he accomplishes things all by himself so I try not to interfere.

We had a little bit of snow early in the month and Kyle wanted to be right outside with his dad shoveling the driveway and sidewalk. We only have a small garden shovel for him, but he made it work just the same.

100% pure exhaustion. Just don't tell him he fell asleep, he'd be so disappointed. He thinks he's much too big for naps.
